I cannot tell you how frustrating it has been after almost 30 years of working in accounting software that something so basic like having a contact who both pays me for my services and whom I pay for theirs and having to create two versions of them in my accounting software. This has never made sense to me and it was another thing I knew from day 1 I could and would improve upon in 🧹Clean Books.
Here you have one source of truth for all contacts and you assign the roles they need. If you click “Customer” they will show up in sales forms. Vendor will cause them to show up on expense or payment forms.
Click Add New Contact and you will see the roles.

This is simple. You have contacts and then you have the companies they work for.
Companies are also the entities you work with where you (likely) don’t have a contact, like Google, or the phone company, utilities and so on.
Made a mistake and set on up as a contact? No problem you can convert either to the other:

Converting a Company has an important implication
You will get a warning about this - that when you convert a company who has contacts associated with it, you will lose that connection.
